Hello!

The purpose of my blog is to help students who are interested in a career path in science. As a first-generation college student, I understand the value of good mentorship that provides the reassurance and resources to guide us toward our desired career path. 

General Academic History

I attended the University of California (UC) San Diego for my undergraduate studies and received my Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. From my experience as a medical scribe, tutor, and undergraduate researcher, I discovered my passion for science communication and teaching. So, I decided on graduate school. I was a teaching assistant for both lower and upper-division science courses at UC Davis and received consistent feedback from my students on how they enjoyed my "older sister" teaching style. With that, I hope to channel my "older sister/aunt" vibe into this blog and help as many aspiring scientists as possible!  

Graduate School History

My doctoral research in Dr. Maria Marco’s lab focused on host-microbe interactions with probiotic Lacticaseibacillus casei. I earned several awards for my research, including the ISAPP Student Fellow Association Poster Award and the TFA FERMENTATION Poster Award. I also received a Science Communication Fellowship from the Powerhouse Science Center. In 2018, I established the Collaborative Research Learning (CRL) Program at Sheldon High School, and I have served as its director ever since. I completed my Designated Emphasis in Biotechnology (DEB) internship with Samba Scientific as a content writer. In September 2023, I graduated from the University of California Davis with a Ph.D. in Microbiology with a Designated Emphasis in Biotechnology. 

My Life Now

Continuing my passion for science communication, I landed a position as a Medical Writer. Now I write content intended for an audience of healthcare professionals – wow, life does come full circle! I also now have a better handle on my work-life balance, so I can finally pursue my passion project, which is content creation! Right now, I am focused on writing content for high school students in the CRL program.
